About Longbarrow Allotments
Longbarrow Allotments moved to its current site some 7 years ago and is now in a rural setting on Throop Road, near the north east boundary of Bournemouth’s urban centre.
The site is made up of approximately 130 plots, ranging in size from 75 sq m to 250 sq m with a price range of £13.00 up to £30.00 for the year, very good value in this day and age.
During the relocation purpose built facilities were installed which includes a large building that has a site shop, equipment storage, meeting room, kitchen and toilets (including disabled). Longbarrow Allotments also benefits from a concrete road structure and an extensive water supply system running to almost every other plot.

Due to the milder climate in the South of England, we are able to grow more than just the traditional potatoes, peas and carrots that are the staple of most allotments, with some members having success in growing peppers, aubergines, peaches and other crops usually only found in warmer climates. Crops also tend to go in earlier in this part of the country, so helping to avoid some of the bugs and diseases that plague many gardeners.
Statistics show that allotment holders are getting younger, our membership covers a wide spectrum of ages.
Our site is rented from the local Council but self managed by an elected committee. The Committee sets the rents, organizes special events, orders a variety of stock for the shop and also enforces the rules and regulations of the site. This helps to maintain a high level of cultivation, appearance of the plots and general tidyness throughout the site.
